If you’re throwing a themed party, something you can do before you start is to decorate your cocktail glasses with non-edible decorations.  You can really go wild with your party’s theme when doing this.  For example, a glass decorated with sparkles and plush pink feathers would go perfectly with a girly bachelorette party.  Have fun with your theme and you might be surprised with what you can create.

Once you have your cocktail glass they way you want it, it’s time to add edible garnishes.  A dipped rim is a subtle way to add extra flavor and flair to your drink.  Simply rub the rim with a cut lemon and dip it in a plate full of sugar or salt.  Depending on the flavor of your drink you might want to vary your dipping ingredients.  Honey and shredded coconut make a nice compliment to a tropical drink, for example.  Take some time to experiment before your party and see what you can come up with.

Pieces of fruit are another simple way to add a garnish to your cocktail glasses.  A slice of lemon or lime is a time tested garnish for a shaper flavored cocktail, while a maraschino cherry will liven up a sweeter one.  Adding fruit to the rim of your cocktail will also give your guests a small hint of the flavor they’re about to experience in their drink.

A word to the wise before you begin garnishing: it’s very easy to go overboard with additions to your cocktail glasses.  Adding too many garnishes will create a messy look, detracting from your guests’ enjoyment of their drinks.  Remember to keep a good balance of decorations on your glasses, and your guests will be talking about you and your cocktails for weeks to come!
