How to Not rely On A Classic Black High Heel

It is a common saying that black goes with everything, and that is generally true. However, far too many women rely too heavily on their black high heels, wearing them with outfits that brown bamboo shoes are better suited to. There are definite situations where a black pump is a must, so you should never toss out your black high heels.

A black shoe is seen as a safe shoe. With probably 80% of the outfits that you wear, a black shoe will work. However, just because it works, does not mean it is best. If you have no black at all in the rest of your outfit, you might want to consider another shoe. A brown or navy will look more appropriate, and like you are not relying on your black shoes. Black is not the only versatile neutral color out there.

Your shoe should not be lighter than the rest of your outfit. So, you should not wear white classified shoes if you are wearing a brown suit with a black camisole. However, your shoe should not be darker than the rest of your outfit, either. If you are wearing a brown suit with a white camisole, you should not wear a black shoe. Unless your darkest hue of the outfit is very dark, see if you can’t find another shoe.

Accessories are your ticket to wearing a black high heel. You can wear just about any combination of colorful pieces, tied together with all black accessories. If black runs consistently through the outfit as accessories, even though it isn’t in your actual clothing, then it is an appropriate choice for a shoe. You will need to find balance in this. The lighter the rest of the outfit, the more black accessories you will need for this to work.

If you are wearing a white cocktail dress, a black belt, purse, and maybe a hat will be required to pull off black shoes. If you are wearing dark brown pants, and a cream top, you can get away with black shoes and a black purse. It is all about overall balance.
