If you or a loved one has had plenty of experience waking up to a painful gout attack, you know or have seen how terrible the pain can be. In spite of all the pain that goes with gout, there are a couple positives. First off, there are things you can do to help get rid of the pain, and secondly, a couple of these pain cures actually can help prevent future gout attacks. Here are three gout cures you should consider using if you have never tried them.

1. Ice. One of the most common gout home remedies available is ice. Using ice can be beneficial because of it’s ability to reduce swelling. Gout is very painful because of the swelling it causes to the affected joint. When using ice you should only use it for 20 minutes at the most, and then give yourself a 40 minute break before trying the ice again. Also make sure you put something between the ice and skin to prevent frostbite complications. The plastic bag the ice is in, doesn’t count. Use something like a t-shirt or a towel.
2. Watermelon. Most people don’t think of using watermelon to get rid of gout, but when you make it a regular part of your diet and use it with other gout remedies, it can make a difference. Watermelon has a lot of water, in fact, it is the most water dense fruit available. Water helps flush uric acid from the body, so this delicious fruit can be very helpful in the fight against gout for both treatment and prevention.
3. Cherries. This summertime fruit has long been considered one of the best natural treatments for gout available. Studies appear to show the possibility that cherries not only can reduce gout pain, but can also reduce the amount of future gout attacks by lowering uric acid levels.
Ice, watermelon, and cherries can all be used to help cure gout pain and are especially helpful when used in combination together.
