How to Replace Outdoor Ceiling Lights Yourself

One of the things that people try to do by themselves is to replace lighting fixtures and this is because of the fact that they think it is easy since there already is an existing installation for them to work with. While it is indeed easier to replace an installation than it is to put one in, replacing outdoor ceiling lights yourself is still no walk in the park.

Some of the things you need to remember before you start working on replacing an existing fixture with a new one is to turn off the power before you start working. To make sure that the power is indeed off before you start replacing the fixture and touching those wires, you should use a circuit tester to ensure that there is no current running on the wires you will be working with.

You will then need to remove the old fixture from the ceiling and remove this fixture from the wires it is connected to. Expose the ends of the different wires that are found on the new fixture by peeling off the insulation on these by about a half-inch or so and attach these exposed ends to the same colored wires found in the ceiling by twisting them together.

Cover these connections with wire connectors to avoid these different colored wires from touching each other. Push these connected wires back into the ceiling and attach the mounting bracket of the new fixture over the hole where you pushed the wires. Attach your fixture to this bracket. Screw the bracket and the fixture securely into the ceiling.

Once you are done with this and you are sure you did the replacing of your lights the right way, test it to see if it works by turning the power back on and switching the light on.
