Use a Misting System in the Greenhouse

The controlled environment of a greenhouse depends on the consistency not only of the temperature but also of the humidity. If the humidity were allowed to drop below 30 percent the result could be devastating for many of the plants growing there. The installation and effective use of a misting system is necessary for the required maintenance and control within the greenhouse.

The misting system consists of standard water pipes connected to a water source that have been installed along the roof of the greenhouse. The fine water mist is delivered through misting nozzles that are located at regular intervals along the pipes. You can then set the water on an automated timer so the fog is created whenever the humidity reaches a certain level.

The size of the water droplets necessary to work effectively in this environment are incredibly small, so small that they flash evaporate so that the greenhouse is humidified without noticeably becoming wet.

The reason why it is important to maintain a certain humidity level in a greenhouse is because plant leaves absorb carbon dioxide as well as a certain amount of moisture from the air and in return allow moisture to escape. The drier the ambient are becomes the faster the moisture will be drawn out of the leaves which will slow the growing process down.

Another option you will have with a greenhouse misting system is to add fertilizers to the system that can then be sprayed over the plants which will then be absorbed through the leaves. This can be a very effective and efficient way to deliver the minerals to the plants.

A properly designed greenhouse misting system is an important tool in the successful propagation and germination process. It is a cost efficient method of providing the perfect environment for your plants and it is also an energy efficient method of operating the greenhouse.

It won’t matter that your greenhouse is located in one of the drier, adverse locations if you have a reasonable water supply and a misting system that is set up to provide favourable conditions. The temperature is controlled by the misting fog just as it delivers fertilizer and exactly the right humidity for the optimal growing conditions.
