Tips for Saving Money on Your Wedding Cake

Tip one: Check around to see if you can find anyone who makes wedding cakes out of their home. Those who work from their home don’t have the overhead costs that an on-site business has and therefore can make a reasonable profit without having to charge you as much as the bricks and mortar business.

As always, you want to do your proper research to make sure it is someone who has operating legitimately and who creates quality wedding cakes.

Tip two: Go to some of your local grocery store bakeries to see what they have to offer and wedding cakes. That may not sound as nice as going to some fancy bakery but you might be surprised at just how nice the cakes are at a grocery bakery. And you might be even more impressed when you find out the cost savings.

Tip three: If you are ordering a cake from a bakery you might decide to get the groom’s cake elsewhere and have your money savings, there. You could purchase elsewhere fairly inexpensively a basic coconut cake or chocolate cake to use for the groom’s cake.

Tip four: Buy three cakes instead of one. That sounds counterintuitive doesn’t it? But if you have been to a few weddings you’ve probably seen couples who have done this. Instead of buying one big expensive cake they bought three smaller less expensive cakes and set them up on a three tier stand. After the wedding they likely sold the stand to get their money back.

Tip five: If you live in even a decent sized city look around to see if there is a wholesale bakery nearby. Where do you think many of those stores get their cakes from? They buy them wholesale from these bakeries in out-of-the-way places that no one knows about and then marks up the price to sell retail. You can cut out the middleman and go directly to the supplier to get the very best price.

Tip six: consider the popular wedding cupcakes idea.

Much of the wedding reception centers around the beauty and enjoyment of the wedding cake, so be sure to take you time, do your research so that you get the best cake possible within your wedding budget.
