Natural Earache Remedies for Adults

Warning!

Although infants are more susceptible to earaches due to infections, we should still be careful. Adults can also get earaches. The most frequent cause of an earache is the clogging of your Eustachian tubes, which are located inside your ears.

During the other parts of the day your Eustachian tubes will drain as you tend to hold your head in the upright position. When you sleep you usually lie down, and when you have lied down the Eustachian tubes do not get air. Because of this, a vacuum is created within the Eustachian tubes.

Having an earache in the middle of the night, will cause lack of sleep and will cause you to feel tired. If your earache is not accompanied by a fever, then it is safe to use home remedies for an earache.

If you have or had an earache that is accompanied by a fever, then this earache might be quite serious, and you should contact your doctor. This article is here to show three remedies on how to deal with an earache that is not accompanied by a fever.

1. You can use a hair dryer as a remedy for your earache. Do not turn the hair dryer on its maximum level. If you do, you will get burned. Aim the hair dryer on the aching ear, place the hair dryer 18 – 24 inches from your ear.

2. Apply some mineral oil or some olive oil on your ear. Put some mineral oil or some olive oil under scorching hot tap water. After the oil becomes hot, take it out, and then give it a moment to cool. Apply three or four drops of the oil on your aching ear then lie down. The ear that you have put oil in should be exposed. You should lie down for at least fifteen minutes.

3. Chewing a single piece of gum can alleviate your earache. While you are chewing your gum the muscles located in your Eustachian tube will contract. Doing this open up your Eustachian tubes will bring air into your Eustachian tubes.

If the altitude is what is causing your earache, then chewing gum can also be affective as a remedy. Even though you can use chewing gum as an effective remedy for altitude caused earaches, yawning tends to be more effective.

When you yawn, it moves the Eustachian tube more effectively that chewing gum. Yawning is better when you are airborne.

Again, these natural earache remedies should only be used on earaches that are not being caused by an infection (i.e. if you don’t have a fever.) You should always go see a doctor if the earache could be from a more serious problem.
