Cleaning a Persian Rug, Simple Tips and Tricks

Nothing says I’m rich and sophisticated more than owning Persian rugs. These things are just exquisitely made and handcrafted by experts out there that truly you can’t deny the fact that these things are priceless. Not every store sells them and sometimes you have to go overseas in order to get one that you really like. Having said that, I believe it is only normal that you spend at least one day in two months to make sure that they are clean and well taken care of. Below is a simple tip for cleaning a persian rug.

Start the process by vacuuming both sides of the carpet, this will make it easier for you to clean once you start washing it with soap and water and, it will prevent damage on your carpet which is usually dealt by debris stuck in between the fibers.

You must also choose the right detergent and stay away from those really strong ones. Since the fibers of persian rugs are so delicate, you should only use the mildest detergent but still has enough cleaning power. This might take some trial and error so be patient about this and test this out on your cheaper, smaller carpets.

Now for the cleaning, I suggest you work on an inclined area. This will allow the water to just slide down easily without settling on your carpet for too long. This is the cause of irregular color and water spots on your carpet which could have been easily avoided, if you knew of such things. for the actual washing, start cleaning from the top to bottom so that you don’t do the same place twice.

Okay now that you know this, you should not stop here. There will be some stains on your carpet that does not require you to take it out and wash in thoroughly. Take for example coffee stains. These things could be easily removed, assuming you know the correct process. Below is a carpet coffee stain removal process that I have been doing ever since.

I just get an absorbent sponge and then blot it on the stain first to absorb all the moisture. This is the important part to prevent the stain from spreading. Now get some water and mix in some detergent. Dab your sponge on the mixture and then apply it on the stain. Make sure to just repeat the dabbing motion and never wipe it. After a while, you should be able to remove the stain completely. I hope these tips help.
