Fighting Over an RC Helicopter

I am a mother of twins – one boy and one girl and I adore my kids very much. However, there are times when they can be so difficult especially when they fight over one thing. I remember the most difficult arguments that they once had was over a RC helicopter.

They were used to having everything fairly easy which is my fault. If I bought a new hat for one the other should get one too. If there was a new toy, the other should get one too. You get the picture.

However, this is not always the case. The kids came home bringing the gifts that they got from their Christmas party in school. They went to the living room excitedly to see what they got. Lauren, my daughter got a colorful and well illustrated story book while Luke, my son got a micro helicopter.

I complimented both gifts and went back to the kitchen to check on the cookies that I was baking for them. Luke clearly had no interest over what Lauren got which was not a surprise to me. Luke never showed any fondness over anything that had to do with reading and writing. Lauren would definitely enjoy her story book.

A few minutes later when I was putting the cookies out to cool, I heard them arguing. I ran to the living room to see Luke hugging his mini helicopter tightly and Lauren was over him, her little hands formed into fists. Then I realized that Lauren wanted Luke’s gift as well.

I ran to her and explained to her that Luke’s gift was for boys. Little girls do not run around with helicopters or toy cars. They are off with dolls and cooking sets. Lauren pulled a tantrum over that and said that she wanted to have a RC helicopter too. Then she started crying loudly which had Luke upset and scared that I would take his toy away from him so he started crying too.

I had a hard time calming the both of them. These are one of these moments when I would want to cry along with them out of frustration. Things finally ended when I made a decision to get a micro helicopter for Lauren and a book for Luke to make things even between the two. This seemed to calm the twins down.

It turns out that it was not a bad decision after all. Now that the twins had a RC helicopter each, they bonded over it and played with their helicopters outside in the yard. It was nice to have some peace in the house and I was getting used to it.

If you want something that all your kids can enjoy so that you can have more peace in the house then I suggest that you get all your kids remote controlled helicopters.
